It's Peking University

     I would never forget the first night I spent in Beijing. It was zero degree Celsius, which was quite chilly for us who came from the South. But eventually we found that there was heating in every dorm room. And to be frank, it was super cozy!

     Oh, let me tell you few things about Peking University. It is a university founded in 1898 to replace the National Academy of the time (Qing Dynasty). These years the university has influenced the modern China a lot. Not only did many important figures graduate from this university, but this university also led many movements and trends. The students are from various backgrounds, most of whom are local Chinese and come from everywhere in China. There are also some international students, and Korean students are the majority. Of course, there are many exchange students from other provinces in China and from other countries.

     It is said that students in PKU would wake up early, and go to Lake Wei-Ming (未名湖) to study English. Well, I can tell you that it is definitely a truth. There are also other students staying up all night at McDonalds or KFCs to study. It is not difficult to understand their passion on this since they are all under huge academic pressure from their fellows. But I think there is the other reason why they don’t stay up late in their dorm room. It is because of the power restriction policy. Dormitories in PKU shut down all the electricity at mid-night, except for the lights in the hallway. So, frankly speaking, we should all be grateful that we can enjoy a restriction-free dorm environment in NCCU.
